The Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia) were the first Asian team to participate in the FIFA World Cup, when the team qualified for the 1938 tournament after its opponent, Japan football team, withdrew from the qualification heats.At that time, Indonesia was one of the Dutch colonies, so the national team use the "Netherlands East Indies" name under Nederlandsche Indische Voetbal Bond (NIVB, or Dutch Indian Football Association), was formed in 1919. Hungry first match the 1938 FIFA World Cup, France was played against Dutch East Indies and won 6–0. In the final Hungary faced Italy at the Stade Olympique de Colombes in Paris. The final pitched the physically aggressive approach of the Italians against the more skilful tactics of Hungary, with the final result was 4–2 to Italy.
